A Seeker’s Weekend Retreat · Reading, PA · New Year 2027
Spiritual
Bullsh*t.
A retreat for seekers who still believe — just not in everyone.
Start your new year by healing from the shitty experiences, keeping the parts of your spirituality that are actually yours, and getting honest about the rest. Honest. Human. Deep. And yes — irreverent.
NEXT EVENT:
JAN 2nd-3rd,2027Have you been burned by a spiritual teacher —
but your path still matters to you?
Let's talk about what too few people in the world of modern-day awakening want to say out loud.
THIS WEEKEND RETREAT IS FOR YOU IF...
1)
Left a spiritual community feeling smaller than when you arrived.
2)
Handed your power over to a teacher who turned out to be anything but enlightened.
3)
Defended someone’s “divine” behavior – that would have been a red flag anywhere else.
4)
Sat through a meditation that brought more anxiety than peace – and stepped up to the plate again anyway.
And also? It's for people willing to look honestly at the ways they've participated in their own confusion. Because here's the thing: it goes both ways.
What we’ll actually do together
An educational and restorative immersion for people who've had less-than-favorable experiences with spiritual groups, self-appointed gurus and so-called experts — including teachers inside long-established traditions.
When you’re being bullshitted
PART 1
Spiritual manipulation doesn't always look like a cult. Sometimes it's a teacher who keeps you just dependent enough to keep coming back, or being told that questioning them means you aren't evolved enough.
We'll look at conscious and unconscious manipulation, and at the uncomfortable truth that someone can share powerful teachings and still be psychologically unwell.
When you’re
bullshitting yourself
PART 2
The harder one to talk about —
and the more important… Spiritual bypassing.
Calling your own grief or doubt “low vibration.” Gaslighting your gut because the framework sounds more evolved than your feelings.
We'll explore how our very real longing for meaning can make us willing participants in our own confusion, and how to find our way back to ourselves.
Reclaiming your own truth
PART 3
The goal isn't cynicism. It's clarity. Through grounded, embodied practices, you'll reconnect with your own knowing, the kind that lives in your body, not just your beliefs.
For some, that means stepping away from a path they've outgrown. For others, it means going deeper into a tradition, this time with their own authority intact.
Start the year on solid ground.

YOUR LEADER FOR THE WEEKEND
I'm Carrie — Caroline Culverhouse. I've been leading retreats and support groups since 2008, trauma retreats since 2012, and working as a psychotherapist since 2013, in Pennsylvania, Sedona and Hawaii.
I stand at the edge of psychology and spirituality, and I don't ask anyone to choose one or the other. I'm a spiritual teacher with years of clinical training, and a therapist who doesn't think chakras are woo-woo BS. I haven't arrived on the mountaintop. I'm still arriving.
Certified Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist · Certified Group Psychotherapist (AGPA) · Certified Trauma Professional · IFS-informed therapist · Yoga and meditation teacher

Carrie's forthcoming book is for the mystics who have taken the hits (an egomaniac teacher, friends who slid into groupthink around a guru, a practice that brought more anxiety than peace) and still aren't ready to give up on the great mystery.
With a therapist's eye and plenty of irreverence, it helps you spot manipulation, notice when you're fooling yourself, and keep your spirituality without giving up your judgment.
A few lines from the book
ON SPIRITUAL TEACHERS
“Free labor becomes ‘devotion.’ Rationing food or sleep becomes ‘burning through the ego.’ Cutting you off from family becomes ‘protecting your frequency.’ Handing over your savings becomes ‘surrender.’”
ON FOOLING OURSELVES
“Saturn doesn't care if you're ‘aligned.’ Saturn cares if you did the thing you said you'd do.”
WITH A SENSE OF HUMOR
“Most good therapists are actually a little bit secretly insane. How else do you think we understand your insanity so well?”
Not sure it's the right fit?
Let's talk before you decide.
If you're carrying something heavy from a past teacher or community, it makes sense to want to know who's holding the room before you walk in. Book a retreat consultation call to see if this weekend is right for you.
